Anthonius Gunawan Agung, 21,a  young air traffic controller sacrificed his life so that a plane could safely take off.  When the 7.5 magnitude quake struck, he was in the control tower. While most staff members fled the tower when the shaking started, Mr Agung chose to stay and continue to guide a Batik Air plane full of passengers which was taxiing on the runway.

His last words were “Batik 6321 clear for take off”. Then, apparently finding his way out blocked, he jumped from the crumbling tower. He died while awaiting treatment. CHWC#6
